Northwest Energy Team in the news, Olympia dhp installers

Scott Homes has been in the news quite a bit recently. As seen in The Olympian, we were on the South Sound Green Tour in August. Our award-winning Inspiration Home was featured, along with an interview with Scott Bergford, the owner. The Inspiration Home uses many of the great energy efficiency features we offer for existing home upgrades, including triple-pane windows, foam insulation, air sealing, constantly running ventilation fans, and of course a ductless heat pump. This amazing home won the Judge’s Choice Award, Best Green Built Home Award, and Best Kitchen Award too. We know what it takes to make your home comfortable and more energy efficient!

South Sound Magazine wrote a nice piece, also on the Inspiration Home. They called it “Super stylish and super efficient”, and said “It costs about $15 a month to heat and cool!” This is why it’s important to consider all aspects of your home rather than just installing a heat source and hoping your bills go down. You want people trained in building science to install your ductless system and offer other solutions such as sealing, insulation, and ventilation.

Another Scott Homes creation was featured in Prefabulous and Sustainable, Building and Customizing an Affordable, Energy-Efficient Home, by Sheri Koones with forward by Robert Redford. Another showcase for energy efficiency, this bungalow features a tankless water heater, super well insulated envelope, extreme air tightness, and other goodies to make a very efficient home.

In the follow-up book, Prefabulous and Sustainable, Your Path to Building an Energy-Independent Home, again by Sheri Koones with forward by Robert Redford, they again feature one of our amazing homes. This Craftsman-style home has all the usual energy efficient features, including a Mitusbishi ductless heat pump and Energy Star appliances. The author also included a nice article extolling the virtues of the ductless systems, saying they “cost less to install than traditional HVAC systems, and use a fraction of the energy, reducing utility bills by about 25 to 50%”. That’s what we’re talking about!

We were also a featured home on the South Sound Solar tour. This event focused on solar power but again addressed issues like insulation, sealing, ventilation, and ductless systems.

We are Energy Star certified and a Mitsubishi Diamond Dealer too. These guys get all kinds of press coverage but two that stand out is that Mitsubishi was named one of the Top 10 Product award winners for 2012 by BuildingGreen and was one of only 16 products to receive the award for energy efficiency, resource efficiency, and health & comfort by the industry leading publication Building Products Magazine.
